According to the Centers for Disease Control and the American Heart Association, heart disease — specifically coronary artery disease — is still the number one cause of death of men and women in the United States. And while it was once considered a man's disease, today more women than men die from heart disease. And unfortunately, at least 100 million Americans have one or more risk factors for heart disease.

To reduce the risk of heart disease, the AHA recommends eating two servings of fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids each week. But most Americans eat fish only three times per month or less. Moreover, there are growing concerns about unsafe levels of contaminants such as mercury and lead that are now commonly found in many fish.

Fish oil is an excellent source of EPA and DHA, which the body uses to make the "calming" omega-3 fatty acids and keep the brain healthy. These compounds help to reduce artery blockages and prevent heart attacks. Fish oil is also associated with improved blood vessel functioning and decreased resting heart rate.

According to reports coming from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality Fish oil can help reduce deaths from heart disease, The systematic reviews of the available data found evidence that long chain omega-3 fatty acids, the beneficial component ingested by eating fish or taking fish oil as nutritional health supplements, reduce heart attack and other problems related to heart and blood vessel disease in persons who already have these conditions, as well as their overall risk of death.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids do a lot more than benefit your heart though. DHA appears to be a wonderfully powerful nutrient in regard to how your brain functions. Research is also showing that nutritional health supplements with omega-3 fish oils can result in a significant reduction in joint inflammation; this reduces morning stiffness and lowers the number of painful joints in rheumatoid arthritis patients both animal and human.

Our elderly population should also be aware of the benefits of fish oil, the DHA and EPA can help retard the brain atrophy, prevent the brain function from recession and reduce the incidence of Alzheimer disease. Fish oil is an excellent source of energy, Vitamin A, D and omega-3 fatty acids. Vitamin A and D are concentrated in the liver of fish, therefore the concentration of Vitamin A and D is higher in oils extracted from livers, such as, cod liver oil, tuna liver oil, etc.

It is important to get fish oil nutritional health supplements that are certified to be pharmaceutical grade. Use of the low temperature triple molecular distillation purification process is what concentrates the oil avoiding formation of trans fats removing any heavy metals leaving a low odor, no aftertaste and easy to digest fish oil capsule. At the end of this process you have the full spectrum of seven ultra pure omega-3 fatty acids found in fish. These include DHA, EPA, ALA and four other naturally occurring omega-3s.

Nutritional Health Supplements – Calcium

Osteoporosis Isn't Chosen Intentionally.

Osteoporosis is a condition commonly found in middle aged women or elderly men, where the bone mass decreases. Osteoporosis is a condition where your bone cell turn over rate is so quick that an aging body can not produce enough new bone cells to keep the bones thick. While osteoporosis is often thought of as an older person's disease, it can strike at any age and is called a "Silent Enemy," because you may not find out you have it until something bad happens to you. Osteoporosis is not really a disease, but rather a risk factor for broken bones.

Women seem to be at greater risk of developing osteoporosis because of the changes that occur during menopause. For women bone loss usually begins at around age 30 and proceeds slowly and continuously to menopause. Once seen mainly as a risk to women, weak bones afflict men, too -- even elite athletes. We can lose up to120mg of calcium during every hour of exercise. Pregnant women are usually advised to take nutritional health supplements to prevent deficiencies in the mother and/or baby.

Bones are like a muscle and if you don't put stress on them they deteriorate. What people do in their 20s, 30s and 40s can shore up a strong skeleton or start a silent erosion, leading to brittle bones that can shatter in old age. Physical activity that puts some form of strain or stress on bones causes the bones to retain and possibly even gain density throughout its life.

To help this condition diets rich in green vegetables (preferably raw), lots of fruits, lots of raw nuts (Brazil nuts are KEY), and whole grains will provide you with the nutrients you need. Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, collards, kale, mustard greens, turnip greens, and others are loaded with highly absorbable calcium and a host of other important nutrients. A person should eat a couple of meals with foods that have a lot of Calcium and Vitamin D in them. Unfortunately the Western diet, which is high in saturated fats, salts, animal proteins, and processed sugars doesn't promote a healthy life.

While a perfect diet could take care of the necessary vitamins and minerals, in today's hustle and bustle world we more than ever need to take nutritional health supplements. A lot of people think that by taking just a calcium supplement they'll have their bases covered.

You need more than just calcium to build strong bones. You also need additional nutrients including vitamins D & K, magnesium, and more to build and maintain strong bones. Keep in mind that supplementation is just that; use it to enhance your diet not as a substitute for good food sources.

The best way to prevent osteoporosis is to avoid smoking, avoid drinking alcohol, get lots of exercise, eat a good diet low in sugars and fat and add high quality nutritional health supplements to your diet.
